My printing project
Can I do everything remotely? Who should I contact to get a quote and start my printing project?
Yes, we can validate the project by e-mail and ship the copies anywhere.
In order to send you a realistic quote for your project, please send us by email ( imprimerie@typographe.be) the following information:
- the desired number of copies (minimum 100)
- the finished format (folded and opened if there is a crease)
- single-sided or double-sided print
- the number of printing colors (1 or 2)
- the desired type of paper (300g, 360g, 600g)
- the other options if necessary (creasing, perforation, cutting, embossing)
The other option is to complete this form.
How does a printing project work in terms of time and payment?
The project starts when you confirm it by paying a deposit of 50% of the total.
We will then send you a first proof within 3 working days. If you are not sure which typeface or layout to choose, please let us know at the outset so that we can offer you two different proofs.
If you wish to make changes to the first proof, we will send you a second proof. Subsequent proofs will be charged extra.
From the confirmation of the project to the finalization, it takes 2 to 3 weeks maximum. For a birth announcement, the workshop gives priority to the project.
The balance must be paid when the file is picked up or before it is sent.
As an example, the printing of 100 copies of a business card on 300g or 360g paper, with one colour print, single-sided, costs 227€ including VAT (187€ excluding tax).
What is the minimum quantity of printing that I can request?
Knowing the work involved in letterpress printing, we offer a minimum of 100 copies per project (same paper, same printing model, same printing colors).
Can I order envelopes to match my printing paper?
Yes, we offer the following possibilities:
– if you use 300g paper, we offer a range of envelopes in different formats made from the same 300g paper: https://www.typographe.be/categorie-produit/envelopes-sur-mesure/
– if you use 360g paper, an option is also offered in a matching 120g paper: flint (light gray), chalk (white) or kraft.
These envelopes can be printed with your address on the tab on the back of the envelope.
Which are the smallest or largest possible formats?
Once again, it is our machines that impose non-negotiable technical constraints on us!
The cutter allows us to cut a format of at least 5 cm.
The machines have frames which allow a maximum format of the finished product: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm), even A3 (29.7 x 42 cm) on our plate.
What papers can I use?
We only work with our range of papers, which are 300g papers.
Some 360g paper options are also possible: flint (light gray), chalk (white) or kraft. These papers cannot be creased therefore folded. But they have a very good hand.
600g cotton paper can be used. This paper is suitable if you want to give depth to your print: we then put more pressure in the machine and this allows the paper to be marked during printing.
Can I print on both sides? What are the other possible options in typography?
Yes, it is possible to print on both sides. The back is a second run in the machine and this one will be invoiced in supplement.
In typography, it is also possible to perform the following actions:
– on 300g papers only: creasing (to fold the paper), embossing (an additional mold must be counted),
– on 600g cotton (and possibly 360g paper): letterpress (printing with more machine pressure),
– on all papers: perforation, cutout with rounded edges or with a specific cutout shape (you will also have to add the cost of the cutout shape).
What are the most commonly used fonts?
The most commonly used fonts are:
– fonts with serif: Garamond, Bodoni, Rockwell, Chevallier
– ‘sticks’ fonts: Antique, Futura, Berthold, Eurostyle, English
Can I print my logo, a design or a specific typo? When do I need a printing plate?
Yes, we can use a printing plate to print your logo, design or chosen typo. This plate is charged extra except for business cards where the text is not very long.
Otherwise, except in exceptional cases, we will use a printing plate. This is charged according to the surface area required (and the number of printing colours: we need one plate per colour).
In order to prepare the plate, we require a file at scale 1, 100% black, vectorised, EPS or PDF format. Our graphic designer can help you with the file.
How many print colors can I use for my project and which ones?
Each printing color requires one machine run. So we ask you to only use 1 to 2 colors. The second color (and next ones if necessary) is billed additionally.
Also, gradients are impossible in letterpress because the letters (or the cliché) are inked uniformly over the entire surface.
It is possible to print in any color with one exception: white. White typography gives a very chalky rendering and is therefore strongly not recommended. If this is the desired rendering, then we are asking for a body of at least 48.
Finally, it is not possible to print with a light color on dark paper. Indeed, the ink is not covering the paper. If you want to print on dark paper, we offer metallic colors: silver, gold or copper, which are covering.
Do you only print on Heidelberg presses?
Yes, we only use Heidelberg letterpress printing presses. We will therefore not be able to print in four-color. We do not print any photos.

What are the deadlines for a custom order in Nantes or in Paris?
For an order to print cards or announcements, it takes about 3 weeks after the validation of the printing order.
When you come into the shop, we take all the details of your file: number of copies, format, paper, text to be printed, typography, printing colour, etc. All this information is then sent to the Brussels workshop. You will receive an e-mail with a print proof, sent in PDF format so that you can carefully check all the information entered. Once you have validated this proof, we start the production of the plate and then the letterpress printing. It is then necessary to allow time for drying, cutting and checking each card. When the project is finished, the file is sent to Nantes or Paris and you will receive a call to let you know that your cards are ready to be picked up in the shop. We can also send it directly to your address.
Stationery personalisation can take longer, depending on the item chosen, the number of copies to be made and the availability of paper from our suppliers. In general, however, it takes one to two months to produce personalised stationery items.

Importance given to the environment
Which papers do you choose?
We carefullyselect each paper that enters our range. It is recycled paper that complies with FSC environment stadards.
Our papers come from Europe: Italy, Germany, France, United Kingdom.
What do you do with paper waste?
Using traditional production techniques, we have very little paper waste compared to a modern printing company. Our notebooks sizes, for example, are optimised for paper size and machines.
The scraps we do have are all taken back for recycling by an external company.
For deliveries, how do you work?
In typography, machines consumes little ink. A litre bottle is consumed in several years.
When le typographe was created in 2007, we chose to take over the inks from a printing company that was closing. So we have not had to buy much inks since them.
For deliveries, how do you work?
We give priority to short circuits, that’s why we produce in our workshops. We prefer to use local suppliers.
When possible, we work with bike delivery companies.
